Trip Credit Deep Dive
Fundraising Trip Credits - Rules and Regulations
An allotted percentage of certain fundraising activities may be allocated by the Grosse Pointe South Band and Orchestra Boosters as trip credits. Band and Orchestra students may earn credits towards program trips in the following ways at the accompanying rates:
-
Ad sales: 50% of the sale of advertisements in programs for Pops and Pastries and the Spring Concert. For example, if an ad were to sell for $240, the student would get $120 in trip credits.[1]
-
Auction items: 50% of the sale price for the donation of family-owned items by a family or a student to the tin-can or silent auctions. If an item garnered $312 in tickets in the tin-can auction, the donor of the item would be granted $156 in trip credits. If the winning bid on a silent auction item was $150, the donor would be awarded $75 in trip credits. Items donated by or solicited from businesses do not generate trip credits.
-
Auctioned services: 100% for student or family services offered at auctions (e.g. the raking of leaves, musical performances, dog walking). If a student service is purchased for $50, the student would earn $50 in trip credits.
-
Sales of Merchandise: 100% of the profits of any sales of merchandise designated as fundraisers for trip credits (e.g. mattress sale, Charleston Wrap, etc.). Note that this is not the percentage of the purchase price, but of the profit. For example, if the organization’s profit margin from the Charleston Wrap holiday fundraiser were 40%, the beneficiary would receive 100% of the profit, which turns out to be 40% of the sale price. Thus, the purchase of a $40 worth of gifts with Charleston Wrap would earn $16 in trip credits.
Rules and Regulations
-
A trip-credit fund will begin in Freshman year for Band and Orchestra students, and remain active until graduation.

-
The Boosters will not honor requests to transfer unused trip credit funds to other electives/activities, students, or be paid as a sum of cash.
-
Not every fund raising activity will result in trip credit activity, only those identified as such by the Boosters.
